Ogren Hits 3:49.98 in 400 IM At A3 Invite Day 2 Prelims

Stanford sophomore Curtis Ogren hit the nation’s second-fastest 400 IM time (pending the results of other invites this weekend) to lead prelims of the A3 Performance Invite.

Ogren went 3:49.98 to lead the heats and now sits #2 in the nation behind only Cal’s Josh Prenot. Stanford holds the top 5 seeds in this race, with junior Max Williamson second at 3:52.89.

A few of the other notable swims from the morning session:

UCLA alum Noelle Tarazona leads the 100 fly after going 53.83. She’s got about a half-second cushion over Hawaii’s Erin Mcnulty.

In the men’s 100 fly, Stanford’s Connor Black is the top qualifier at 47.32, but he’l have to battle Hawaii freshman Micah Ornelas, who was a quick 47.66 for second. That field is extremely tight, with second through sixth all separated by just three tenths of a second.

Another Stanford-Hawaii matchup looms in the 200 free, where Liam Egan leads for the Cardinal in 1:37.62. Yuri Samouilich is just a tick behind at 1:37.68, though.

Cal Poly will be looking to steal a win in the men’s 100 breast, where Caleb Davies outswam the field in prelims. A junior, Davies was 54.73. Another mid-major school is in line for a win in the women’s 100 back, where San Jose State’s Colleen Humel is the top dog at 54.27 out of prelims – more than half a second up on the rest of the field.
