The official psych sheets for the 2017 NCAA Women’s Championships have been released on USASwimming.com. As we thought would happen in our prediction article, the first alternate is Louisville’s Nastja Govejsek, a freshman sprint butterflier.
PSYCH SHEET
We said the line would go to 39 entries, but it actually went to 40 for most of the events. The anomalies were 38 in the 100 breast, 39 in the 100 fly and 200 free, and 41 in the 200 IM.
USC, Stanford, and Georgia had 14 swimmers selected, followed closely by Cal and Texas A&M at 13. In total, 62 teams had at least one swimmer selected.
More analysis will come later on today, so stay tuned.
Some of the teams had one qualifier. Wonder how much coaching staff travels for one swimmer?
Zero. Not allowed to have a coach. Tragic but that’s how it works with budget cuts
25 girls under 440 in the 500!!!!…Wow
Also, why does Cal keep putting Bilquist in the 50? She didn’t make didn’t make top 16 last year and its not looking likely this year either. She should do the 200 free.
Look at the number of men invited to NCAAs vs. women. Gender equity run amok…
Can somebody tell me how many events Stanford is seeded first in? I don’t even know if I can count that high
10/13
You can’t count to ten?
Only EIGHT teams are in double digits for number of swimmers. Of course some of the smaller teams have swimmers like Lilly King or Leah Smith and will score high, but the bigger teams will have lots of fun with a large group of swimmers.
Georgia, USC and Stanford all have 14, Texas A&M and Cal have 13, NC STATE has 11 swimmers and Michigan and Texas are bringing 10 each. And divers could add to this mix.
Based on the times in the psych sheet, Ledecky will be lapping literally everyone in the mile, even Smith.
That is exactly what makes her race exciting: the racing ahead of imaginable record line and watching how she catching other swimmers and if she can do it twice. It is still a tough race 🙂
Every event is faster to qualify than it has ever been!!
Remember when someone left a comment about how the 100Fr is a “mans race”? Looks pretty manly with 4 women already dipping into the :46 range.
I’m not saying it’s a man’s race but at my local age group championships the top 8 was from 45low-46high. Using that logic every race would be a mans race.
