Oakville Leads Team Standings Going Into The Final Day Of Age Group Championships

Going into the final day of competition at the Canadian Age Group Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba the Oakville Aquatic Club leads the team scores with a total of 1081.5 points followed closely by last year’s meet winners Etobicoke Swimming who is in second place with 979 points. The Mississauga Aquatic Club (890.5), the Pointe-Claire Swim Club (868) and Ajax Swimming (752) round out the top five.

14 year old Tai Long Singh of the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club broke his second Canadian Age Group record of the week posting a 58.76 in the 100 backstroke, beating Tobias Oriwol‘s record of 58.92 which he set in 2000. Despite the exceptional time Singh was not able beat Conor Ferguson of Ireland who posted a 57.54. Ferguson has gotten the better of Singh in all three backstroke events.

Singh also took the gold in the 200 freestyle recording a time of 1:57.56. With that win he has collected seven age group titles so far.

Ferguson is not the only Irish swimmer to put up impressive results on Saturday evening. 13 year old Antoinette Neamt took the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:02.72, beating her competition by close to eight seconds.

13 year old Kayla Sanchez of Ajax Swimming, who finished second to Neamt in the 200 freestyle, won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:04.59, giving her four national titles over the last four days.

13 year old Joshua Young of the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club won his sixth and seventh gold medals of the competition taking the 13 and under boys 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. With those two wins Young has swept all three breaststroke events along with the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
