Notre Dame rising senior Abbie Dolan has stamped her ticket for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, and in the process made herself a favorite for a semi-finals berth, at least, at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials next summer.
She swam lifetime bests in both the 100 free (55.63) and 200 free (1:59.82) at the meet. Her previous best times were 55.98 and 2:00.26, respectively.
Those few tenths are pretty significant for a couple of reasons. For one, in the 200 free, she now ranks 13th nationally and in the 100 free she ranks 16th nationally this season. For another, that 200 free swim puts her inside the time it took to qualify for the Olympic Trials semi-finals in 2020 (Sarah Henry was 16th in prelims in 2:00.00). It wound up taking a 1:57.6 to finish in the top 6 in that event and make the team as part of the 800 free relay.
Dolan’, who was 15th in the 200 yard free at NCAAs, hadn’t been a best time in the long course version of that event in almost 2 years, since June of 2017. With the country’s top swimmers gone at the World University Games, Pan American Games, and World Championships this summer, she will be a contender for a U.S. National Championship this summer in the 200 free – which would be a big confidence boost ahead of the Olympic year.
Dolan also swam a 26.39 in the 50 free at the meet.
speedy for a random meet in May
Way to go Abbie !!!! Go Irish!!
