SAN ANTONIO – The North Texas swimming and diving team will come home to Denton with a victory after traveling to UIW on Friday for a dual meet against the Cardinals.

UNT won the meet 160-139 and notched victories in 11 of the 16 events, led by several strong efforts in the pool.

Junior Diana Kolb doubled up by winning the 100 and 200 backstrokes and also was the lead leg on the 200 medley relay team that scored a win for UNT. Sophomore Laura Mazzotta joined Kolb with a double by claiming first in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and swimming the second leg on the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Shaena McCloud also was part of three victories with wins in the 50 freestyle and swims in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Senior London Farris won the 100 freestyle and swam the anchor leg on the 200 freestyle relay, and sophomore Kailey Turner took first in the 200 butterfly. Graduate student Cierra Scully was the third leg on both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams that won first.

In the diving events, senior Saylor Hawkins and graduate Brigid Krbec both took first and second – with Hawkins winning the 1-meter springboard and Krbec taking the 3-meter, with the other finishing second in each event. In the 3-meter, senior Olivia Dollar rounded out the all-UNT podium with a third-place finish and a personal best.

“Overall I’m really pleased with the team’s efforts today,” head coach Brittany Roth said. “We took another step forward today in our progression as a team. I am proud of Kaylyn King’s range and tenacity, beating her 1,000 freestyle season best by over 20 seconds today. Diana Kolb continues to show her consistency and came through strong in her 100 and 200 backstroke events. Tram Nguyen came through big in her lineup today, taking on events she typically doesn’t have in her standard lineup, but added power in our 200 butterfly with Kailey Turner, and she and Laura Mazzotta were able to go 1-2 in the 200 Breast. We had so many season best performances today, and we have much to build off from these first two months of the season.”

With the win, Roth moved into second on the program’s all-time wins list with 21, trailing only Joe Dykstra’s 31 from 2006-13.

“I’m proud and humbled that these past two wins have allowed me to move into second in career wins with UNT Swimming & Diving,” Roth said.

The Mean Green will return to competition when they host Little Rock on Nov. 4, for their final tuneup before they travel to the mid-season championships in Houston Nov. 17-19.
