Parker Campbell, a Shelby High School senior who swims for the Sharks Aquatic Club, has committed to swim for the NC State Wolfpack.
Campbell is a very strong backstroker, with some promise in sprint-to-mid-distance freestyle. NC State has become very well known for developing high caliber sprinters, and while Campbell tends to be better in the 200-500 range, we’ve seen Wolfpack sprinters like Simonas Bilis and David Williams extend their range up from the 50 to the 200.
Campbell’s best times include:
100y back – 50.33
200y back – 1:48.73
50y free – 22.22
100y free – 47.77
200y free – 1:41.40
500y free – 4:34.70
100m back – 58.33
200m back – 2:07.03
His yards backstroke times are both under the Winter Nationals cut, while his meters times are both under the Summer Juniors cuts.
From 2013 to 2014, Campbell dropped just over two seconds in his 200y back and exactly one second in his 100y back. Perhaps more impressive is his drop from 4:43.49 in 2013 to his current best of 4:34.70.
Campbell would’ve been fourth on the 2013-2014 top times list in the 100 and 200 backstrokes for the Wolfpack, and he will move in nicely to help fill the loss of senior Stephen Coetzer (NC State’s top 200 backstroker last year ), considering he continues to improve.
This is the third male recruit that has committed to the Pack—Campbell joins fellow North Carolinians Daniel Graber and Justin Ress.
Congrats to Parker AND to his Dad Bill who was a part of our dominant WOLFPACK squads in the mid 70’s… GO PACK! 🙂
Known for sprinters…
Except, they also won 2bk, 2fl, 4im and placed several in top 8 in the mile at ACC champs. And have one of the best distance swimmers in the country, Ipsen.
