John Marshall High School senior Nikolas Wheeler has committed to swim at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Wheeler will be a third-generation Milwaukee student. He is also a member of the Rochester Swim Club in Rochester, Minnesota. He recently competed in the 2021 West Speedo Summer Championships, where he placed in the top 30 in the 200-meter butterfly.
He’s a US Open qualifier, and a Futures qualifier in the 100 butterfly. His best short course times are:
- 100 freestyle: 46.98
- 200 freestyle: 1:44.17
- 100 butterfly: 49.98
- 200 butterfly: 1:49.23
- 400 IM: 4:08.08
Milwaukee is a member of the Horizon League. At last season’s Horizon League Championships, the team placed sixth out of seven teams. With his best times, Wheeler would’ve placed in the top eight in the 200 butterfly at that meet and the top 16 in the 100 butterfly.
Wheeler would also have placed in the top-16 in the 200 freestyle and 400 IM if he competed in last year’s Horizon Championships. He also would have earned the team’s fifth-fastest time in the 200 butterfly in its entire history.
Milwaukee has recently begun to build up its butterfly depth. Two of this year’s freshmen — Brady Cawthon and Hunter Johnson — are butterfliers. Last year, Robert Petersen set a new Milwaukee freshman record by finishing tenth in the 200 butterfly at the Horizon championships.
