CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dominik Niedzialek of the Cleveland State University men’s swimming & diving team was named the Nike Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week as announced by the League office Tuesday afternoon.
It is the second such honor of the season for the sophomore, making him the first League athlete to win this award more than once this season.
Niedzialek was a factor in helping the Vikings claim their fifth consecutive Magnus Cup title with a CSU meet record 1,871.5 points this past weekend.
Niedzialek began the meet with the 500 freestyle, where he finished fourth in 4:28.95, the second-fastest time in the League this season. Niedzialek then went on to sweep the backstroke events over the next two days. He won the 100 back in 49.01 seconds and claimed the 200 in 1:46.38, both of which are the fastest times in the Horizon League this season.
Niedzialek also swam on multiple relays, including posting a lead split of 49.16 seconds on the 400 medley relay and a lead split of 1:41.39 on the 800 freestyle relay. His 800 free relay split stands as the sixth-fastest 200 free time in the League this season event though that is not one of his primary events.
This is the fifth consecutive season in which a Viking has earned Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors multiple times.
Cleveland State will return to action on the second weekend of December with a dual at Ashland.
