Nick Vance Changes Commitment from Auburn to Florida State

Florida State has gained another member for their incoming class, as former Auburn verbal commit Nick Vance has announced he’ll be continuing his academic and swimming careers at FSU. Vance trains with the West Chicago Sharks in Illinois.

So excited to have found my place. Awesome coaches, awesome team and culture, awesome school. Let’s get to work! Go NOLES!

TOP TIMES

  • 200y free – 1:39.71
  • 500y free – 4:28.16
  • 100y back – 49.77
  • 200y back – 1:44.95
  • 200y fly – 1:48.49
  • 200y IM – 1:49.48
  • 400y IM – 3:51.45

Vance is a versatile swimmer, with strong times in mid-distance free, backstroke, fly, and IM. This summer, he had a fantastic long course season, producing new bests of 57.88/2:02.79 in the backstrokes, 2:03.85 in the 200 fly, and 2:08.02/4:26.82 in the IMs. With his skillset, he could develop in a number of ways at FSU, but it looks like the 400 IM and 200 fly or back will be two of his strongest events for the final two days of a championship format meet.

At the 2018 ACC Champs, Vance would’ve scored in C finals in the 200 back and 400 IM. He joins Cameron Taddonio and Noah Young in FSU’s incoming class.

How about not posting verbal commitments on SwimSwam till the dotted line is signed, by both parties. Kind of crazy to post verbal commitment for class of 2023 and then talking about kids backing out.

There is no dotted line to sign on for verbal commitments. You seem unclear on the concept entirely. Also, why don’t we apply your logic to all reporting? Why doesn’t ESPN wait to announce an MLB contract until it’s signed? Why don’t we place a moratorium on all election day coverage until the races are officially called? Why are we reporting on Senate confirmations until after they’re done? And why are you assuming you’re wise enough to tell professional reporters how to do their jobs?

What is the point of a verbal commitment if kids can get break that commitment whenever they please?

That would be nice if they shared why but they will most of the time be PC. It could be as simple as more money, or a bigger car (basketball), 😏

I get what you are saying. I just think kids are rushing the college decision. I’m just old school and think commitments to anything need to be honored.

When a letter of intent is signed yes because the athlete has fully committed to the school. A verbal commitment means very little, it’s more like a placeholder for athletes than an actual commitment.

I agree with what was said above. Too many variables we don’t know about. Maybe something with the coach changed. Maybe he committed on an unofficial visit and went on his official visit and things changed. Maybe he changed majors and the major was better elsewhere. This is the problem with these kids having to make a decision sooo early. Especially now that Juniors can go on official visits. I’d actually prefer they figure out before going and change their commitment . How many first year transfers have we seen over the last few years??? I would venture to say we will see that number increase dramatically with the new rules with Juniors. How can we really expect 15 and… Read more »
