New Events Added to 2017 FINA World Masters Championships

The first FINA Bureau meeting of the year took place today in Budapest, one day before the FINA World Aquatics Gala celebration that will take place tomorrow, celebrating the completion of the FINA competition calendar. In the meeting, many topics were discussed and a lot of important decisions were settled upon, one being the addition of two new events to be featured at the 2017 FINA World Masters Championships.

The two new events will be added to the diving section of the games. The competition schedule will now include Diving Mixed Synchro events and Synchro Duet Mixed routines. At the 2015 games, the diving events were men’s and women’s 1m spring board, men’s and women’s 3m spring board, men’s and women’s platform, men’s and women’s 3m synchronized and men’s and women’s platform synchronized. The additional events will bring more attention to the diving side of the championships, offering opportunities for more athletes to attend as well as more chances to achieve a medal.

Budapest, Hungary was named the new host of the 2017 FINA World Championships and the 2017 World Masters Championships, after original host country Mexico pulled out because of economic reasons.

Dear Sir. I would love to see included the 1600M for the Ladies of all ages. It is always good to have a challenge. Personally, I am capable of swimming this distance or longer. Appreciate any consideration you may give this request. Thanks. Phyllis Goodlad.

I vote they add 25’s for those over 50. Sometimes even a 50 feels pretty long.

This is the world championships. You have a year to practice. If 50m is still too long, maybe this isn’t the competition for you.
