Nevada Wins Third Straight Dual, Tops Fresno State 179-102

RENO, Nev.  – The Nevada women’s swim and dive team continues to roll past opponents and tonight was no different, taking the win over Fresno State, 179-102. This is the third straight dual meet win for Nevada and the second Mountain West win.

The Pack took first in 12 of the 15 events on the evening, including the 3-meter diving event, 1000 free and the 400 free relay. Senior, Andressa Cholodovskis won the 200 free and the 100 free before anchoring the winning relay with a time of 3:30.60. Josien Wijkhuijs also claimed two events for herself in the 100 fly (55.48) and the 50 free (23.83) before joining Cholodovsksis in the relay.

Wiktoria Samula won the 100 breast and the 200 breast to help the momentum stay with Nevada while Lindsey Soule recorded a first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:33.31. A local Reno swimmer in Benedict Nagy tallied a win in the 400 IM in 4:28.29.

The winning of events just continued with firsts in the 500 freestyle, courtesy of Caitlyn McHugh and a first in the 100 back from Imogen Watson with a time of 55.94. Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez secured her win in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 358.13.

Colette Berkenfield took second in both the 50 free and the 100 free but was a member of the winning relay that wrapped the night up. Another freshman, Jessie Nowotny finished second in the 1-meter with a final score of 298.58, the top Nevada finisher in that event.

Tomorrow, Nevada hosts UC Davis in another dual meet, a traditional 16-event lineup with a free 1-hour technique lesson for kids in the 8th grade or younger that are deemed water safe.

RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State swimming and diving team fell to Nevada 179-102 in its first dual meet of the season. The Wolf Pack sealed in its victory taking first place in 12 out of the 15 events.

“We learned a lot today,” head coach Jeanne Fleck said.  “It is hard to go up to altitude and swim.  We can learn and get better as this is our first dual meet of the year. We have a lot of work to get before the end of the season. The divers did great, and got our first win against Nevada in diving in a long time. We had some outstanding swims with Kimberly Harbert and Athlena Clayson winning the 200 fly and 200 back as well as Manuela getting second in both the 400 I’m and 200 breast.”

Fresno State falls to 0-1 (0-1 MW) on the season.

The dual was highlighted by freshman Athena Clayson finishing first in the 200 backstroke (2:03.43) and senior Irina Nikolaeva taking first place in the 1-meter with a score of 303.00.

Fresno State came away with six second place finishes. Clayson logged a time of 27. 73 in the 100 backstroke, Kimberly Harbert recorded a 57.61 in the 100 butterfly and a 2:07.15 in the 200 butterfly, Manuela Mendolicchio chalked a 4:32.64 in the 400 IM, Darina Kihisiamova recorded a 5:11.54 finish in the 500 freestyle and the Bulldog 400 freestyle relay team logged a 3:35.06.

Nevada was able to extend its lead by taking the top two spots in five events in the dual.
