Nevada State Champion Jake Chir Verbally Commits to CSU Bakersfield

Jake Chir, who swims for Boulder City Henderson Heatwave in Nevada, has made a verbal commitment to Cal State University Bakersfield beginning in the fall of 2015.

Chir is a senior at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada. At the ultra-exciting 2014 Nevada Division 1 State Championships (where the top three teams finished within three points of each other), Chir was instrumental in Coronado’s near-win. He was state champion in the 200 free (1:41.56) and runner-up in the 100 free (46.87); he also led off Coronado’s 200 medley relay (24.30) and anchored their 200 free relay (21.4). Chir is the regional record-holder in the 100 free with 46.60, and was named Swimmer of the Year the last two years in a row.

Outside of high school swimming, Chir’s best short course times are:

100 breast: 58.11
50y free: 21.34
100y free: 46.37
200y free: 1:41.03
100y back: 53.25
200y IM: 1:55.75

The Roadrunners had a pretty good showing in freestyle races at Western Athletic Conference championships last year, so they may need Chir to continue to further develop his breaststroke. He would have scored in the C-final of the 100 breast at WACs last years, and the 200 free as well.
