Nebraska State Champion Lauren Mayo Commits to Colorado School of Mines

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lauren Mayo of Omaha, NE has committed to swim for Division II  Colorado School of Mines beginning in the fall of 2020. She shared the news by saying, “I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to swim for Colorado School of Mines! I can’t wait to be part of such an amazing team! Thank you so much to my coaches, teachers, family, and friends for their unwavering support. Go Orediggers!

Mayo is currently a senior at Elkhorn South High School, where she has been a member of the women’s varsity swim team for all 4 years. Every year, she has been a finalist at the Nebraska High School State Championships. Freshman year, she swam the 200 free and the 100 fly, and the remaining years she competed in the 100 and 200 free. In February, Mayo swam the 100 and 200 free as well as two relays at the 2020 state meet. In her first event, she earned a best time and won the gold medal in the 200 free, holding-off opponent Jocelyn Hood of Omaha Marian by 0.03 seconds. She placed third in the 100 free behind Westside High School’s Logan Kuehne and Lincoln Southwest High School’s Bella Livingston. She led off her team’s 200 and 400-free relays, which placed 4th and 3rd respectively. Mayo was named a 2020 NISCA Academic All-American.

Mayo swims year-round for the Aquatic Club of Elkhorn. In July of 2019, Mayo competed at the Speedo Champions Series in Junks, OK. She swam the 50, 100, and 200 free, and the 50, 100, and 200 fly at the long course meet. She completed the meet with a season-best in the 200 fly, and personal best times in the remaining events.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 24.67
  • 100 free – 52.53
  • 200 free – 1:53.62
  • 100 fly – 58.86
  • 200 fly – 2:10.54

In the fall, Mayo will have the team’s fastest 100 free time, as Madeleine Oakley will be graduating in the spring. Mayo will be the third fastest 200 freestyler behind Rachel Fontan and Olivia Lomax. Her ranking in these two events will likely allow her to be on the team’s 400 and 800 free A-relays. She will be the third fastest 100 flyer and the second fastest 200 flyer. In the fall, Mayo will be joining fellow class of 2024 sprinter Annie Osmun.
