Neamt and Hyland Rack Up One More Win Each At Irish National Championships

Three days have come and gone at the Irish National Swimming Championships in Dublin and with that time teammates Antoinette Neamt and Brendan Hyland have each collected three national championship titles.

Neamt added a victory in the 400 freestyle to the her wins in the 200 and 800 freestyle on the first two days of competition. The 13 year old who trains at the Swim Ireland Performance Centre took the event in a time of 4:19.03 improving on her lifetime best of 4:21.44 which she recorded in March. Neamt is not finished yet as she will be vying for the titles in both the 200 IM and 1500 freestyle on Sunday.

Hyland collected the crown in the men’s 400 freestyle, in a very tight battle with Irish national record holder Andrew Meegan. Hyland took the event in a time of 3:59.32 followed by Meegan who hit the wall in a time of 3:59.57. Both men were well off Megan’s record of 3:54.11.

Melanie Houghton walked away with her second victory of the championships. Houghton took the women’s 100 freestyle in a time of 57.06, this is just a day after she won the women’s 50 butterfly in a new Irish record time.
