NCSA Championships to be Canceled, Tweets Rowdy Gaines

Rowdy Gaines sent out a tweet stating the NCSA Spring Championships, which were to be held starting on March 17th in Orlando, are cancelled. NCSA has not yet released a statement regarding the state of the meet, however, Gaines is the Vice President of Aquatics at the YMCA of Central Florida, where the meet was scheduled to take place.

SwimSwam has independently confirmed that information with a member of the NCSA Board of Directors.

This is just the most recent in a flood of cancellations, as major sports governing bodies are now beginning to suspend operations. The NCSA Spring Championships are usually the largest SCY championship meet for 18 & unders in the United States. It’s not particularly rare for over 200 swimmers to be entered in a single event. The decision to cancel the meet seems to have come following a recommendation by the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, that all events with over 250 people in attendance be cancelled.

We don’t yet have any official word on the cancellation from NCSA, or whether there are plans to reschedule.

The World of Sports is in the lime lite, but what about the average person that is impacted? We all are in this together & need to survive this together. Looking forward to the next Swim Meet whenever that is!!!!! I’m sure the Swimming girls are all teary eyed & the boys are angry, but just know their families are just as devastated for them! Loving Grandma

You would think that the “Voice” of Swimming would have a smidge more compassion in his tweet.

Spoken like a true troll. Anyone who has ever interacted with Rowdy knows how much he loves this sport.

Just saw pictures this week of our club team members getting their gear for this meet. At that time I had a gut feeling this would happen. Feel for all the kids who work so hard for these cuts and opportunities.

Good. Keep them coming. It’s unfortunate that it’s happening but I’m glad people are putting their foot down and worrying about the big picture.

There is no need to cancel this meet when the only people dying from this virus are older than 80 years old. Stop blowing things out of proportion because some people have trained all season for this meet. To just cancel it is devastating so you keep your mouth shut!

Okay well when little Johnny goes home to see his grandpa after he got 80th place at NCSAs and grandpa gets the virus, maybe the swim wasn’t worth it?

AS a grandpa, I can put up with waiting 14 days. Let them swim, just ban anyone over 50 and then keep anyone who attends away form those of us over 50 for at least 14 days.

This means there will be no officials then either. Over 50 is about the only group that has that kind of time off work.

Speaking of “out of proportion”, invisible corona virus causing havoc in the world is about right. Wake up from whatever bubble you are living in.

Has anyone seen any statistics about being an asymptomatic COVID-19 carrier (healthy carrier or just carrier) yet not infected themselves (or at least yet anyway)?

Thankfully it’s very low. I heard on NPR that less than 1% don’t have symptoms.

Lmfao…that would require, you know, a wide range of testing and research, which, a lot of times, is directed by some sort of proactive government interested in its citizens.

Are you really serious?
In Italy, Drs are now making decisions on which patients to let die because they do not have the resources to treat everyone who needs intensive treatment. This is going to get worse here, especially if this is our mindset. Even Trump is no longer telling people to go to work sick
