With day 3 in the books, Texas’s lead grows ever larger. They now lead California 391.5 to 253 and a repeat title looks certain. Texas again led the field in points gained vs the psych sheet. Predictably their biggest gain came in the 200 medley relay which entered the meet ranked 17th, so all 40 points from winning were a net positive. Their biggest individual gain was from John Shebat who jumped from 18th on the psych sheet to 2nd in finals. California were on track for a solid day, but were derailed by Matt Josa‘s DQ in the finals of the 100 fly. California ended up gaining only 12 points on the day vs the psych sheet. The second best points gain on the day came from Missouri who picked up 24 points. Their gains were most helped by their 10 place jump in the 200 medley relay,
The biggest points drop was Ohio State with 44 points lost. Their biggest losses came in the 100 fly where their 6th seeded and 12th seeded swimmers both failed to score. Indiana dropped the most second most points with 35.5. They dropped big chunks in the 100 breast where #3 seed Ian Finnerty missed the B final with a 17th place finish this morning and their 7th seeded 200 medley relay missed the final and ended up 13th. Indiana is still very competitive for a top place in the team competition thanks to their divers as they scored 27 on the 3 meter.

It’s a shame the B1G is so competitive at their conference meet that it effects them here. Can’t blame the team’s wanting to win B1G Team Title. Would like to see everyone at full strength here.
If your goal was to win the Big10, your season was already lost from the beginning. No excuses. I guess Cal swims in an easy conference. Did they win the Pac12? Finished no lower than 2nd in the last 7 years. Stop making excuses for the Big10.
I understand what you are saying but it is a much bigger deal for the SCHOOL and ultimately there is much more emphasis on the conference meet for the B1G. I’m not saying I agree with it but it is the culture of the B1G. My statement was aimed more at frustration of how much emphasis is put on their conference meet. Would like to have seen some of their swimmers swim through that meet to really focus on NCAA.
Also, I would disagree on your statement that if you focus on Big 10 your season is already lost. Its a different mindset. I would guess IU would say they had a successful season b/c of the B1G title and how they swam there. It would be harder for Michigan and OSU to say that because they didn’t win the team championship. I love that Cal puts emphasis on NCAA rather than PAC. It shows the powerhouse that they are. Florida and Texas especially don’t have to worry about it.
