NC State’s Zach Brown Clocks 1:57.1 200 Fly at Greensboro Sectional Day 1

The Speedo Sectional meet in Greensboro, NC kicked off yesterday with the 800 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 fly. One of the biggest swims on day 1 came from rising NC State sophomore Zach Brown, who dropped nearly 2 seconds from his personal best to win the men’s 200 fly. Brown came into the meet with a best time of 1:59.00, then swam a 1:57.88 in prelims. In finals, Brown improved upon that time, finishing in 1:57.14. The time makes Brown the 4th fastest American this year.

16-Year-old Amanda Ray from New Wave Swim Team won the women’s 200 fly with a 2:13.32. Ray has a personal best of 2:10.87. Georgia Tech distance star Emily Ilgenfritz was dominant in the women’s 800 free, clocking an 8:45.90. She won the event by over 10 seconds. NC State’s Curtis Wiltsey won the men’s 800 free, swimming an 8:11.09. The swim marked a personal best by just under a second for Wiltsey.

Emma Barksdale of South Carolina won the women’s 200 IM with a 2:15.15, a little off her personal best of 2:13.35. NC State’s Kylee Alons was out very fast in the IM, splitting 28.04 and 34.21 for a 1:02.25 on the first 100. Alons ended up in 3rd (2:17.29), with Kentucky’s Bailey Bonnett was 2nd in 2:16.87. Lexington Dolphins’ Zach Hills won the men’s 200 IM with a 2:03.41, shaving .21 seconds off his best time.

Madison Kennedy won the women’s 50 free in 25.51, a little bit off her season best of 25.12. NC State’s Jacob Molacek took the men’s 50 free with a 22.67. Molacek was 22.52 in prelims, shaving .07 seconds off his personal best.
