The following is a press release courtesy of the ACC:
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomores Soren Dahl and teammate Alexia Zevnik helped the Wolfpack capture two ACC Swimming weekly awards, as each contributed to victories over nationally ranked Minnesota (No. 23/11) last weekend. Also earning weekly honors were North Carolina’s Michole Timm and Virginia Tech’s Thomas Shinholser.
NC State’s Dahl earned ACC Swimmer of the Week recognition after winning two individual races, taking the 100 fly (47.37) and the 200 free (1:36.99). The Copenhagen, Denmark, native also helped the No. 8 Wolfpack set two new Casey Aquatic Center pool records in the 200 medley relay (1:27.97) and the 400 free relay (2:59.19).
Virginia Tech’s Shinholser took home the ACC Male Diver of the Week honor after posting NCAA qualifying scores in both his events, as the Hokies defeated Georgia Tech and UNC Wilmington. The Burtonsville, Maryland, native finished second in the 1-meter, recording 363.20 points and first in the 3-meter with 354.25 points.
NC State’s Zevnik grabbed ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors after taking part in three pool records. The Lasalle, Canada, native helped her 200 medley relay (1:40.02) and 400 free relay (3:20.26) teams earn new Casey Aquatic Center records as the Wolfpack swept the two-day meet in relay events. She also set a new pool record in the 200 back (1:56.21), finishing more than six seconds ahead of second place.
North Carolina’s Timm was named ACC Female Diver of the Week after a dominant performance contributed to the first Tar Heels women’s victory over Virginia since the 2007 season. The Sauk Valley, Minnesota, native won the 1-meter with 316.57 points and the 3-meter with 353.55 points.
I doubt there is a men’s program in the country on as huge a positive trajectory as NC State. Incredible job by the coaching staff over the past few years. Somewhere Coach Easterling is smiling.
Agreed. I wish we could send Mel Stewart to a practice in Raleigh like he does(did) for the UT Men in Austin to film what’s going there.
Does NC State have any american swimmers?
american – they do. The men’s team has 21 Americans out of 25 on the roster, and the women’s team has 25 out of 29.
actually, that is incorrect. their current roster on their website indicates that there are 5 out of 25 swimmers not listing their ‘hometown’ in the United States. However that does not represent the fact that there are those like Coetzer – a South African who lists hometown in NC. regardless of said point, that is not an overbearing number to question the amount of american swimmers. in fact florida boasts 10 “foreigners” on their roster. interestingly brought to attention earlier was the fact that FIU women have 16 out of 29 positions of their rosters filled by foreigners. fun with numbers. nerd out
