The United States Naval Academy has hired Mark Liscinsky from American University as their new assistant swimming coach. He’ll replace Chris Maiello, who left the program earlier this week to take the head coaching job at the University of North Dakota.
Liscinsky has spent seven seasons as an assistant at American his alma mater, and earned elevation to assistant head coach. He worked largely with the team’s sprinters, where his standout swimmers were Leah Breen, who has finished in the top 8 in both the 50 free at the last two Patriot League Championships, as well as school record holder Dory Isaacs.
As a swimmer, Liscinsky was a standout and a two-time Patriot League Swimmer of the Year and a member of the 2003 World University Games team.
He moves from one co-ed program in the Patriot League at American to working strictly with the men’s program at the Naval Academy, though Navy is an upgrade as the conference’s dominant program under head coach Bill Roberts. The men’s program has won 10-straight conference championships, and the women’s program has read the last two (and 12 of the last 22).
Liscinsky’s hiring is pending the completion of paperwork; this process is likely to take until July, because it involves his being commission as an officer in the Navy.
