Nathan Adrian Discusses Ryan Lochte In Huffington Post Profile

Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian was recently profiled in an article for the Huffington Post in which he discussed Ryan Lochte and the infamous Rio robbery incident.

When asked about the incident, Adrian responded:

“I’m just happy they’re all safe. I think a lot of people several months later forget that that they could have ended up in real danger, regardless of what was said.”

According to Adrian, he was invited to join the group of guys who left the Olympic Village to go out that night. However, it was already 2 a.m., so Adrian declined the offer because of how tired he was.

Following the incident, Lochte, Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz, and Jimmy Feigen, the 4 swimmers who were at the gas station, each recieved suspensions. Lochte’s suspension is for 10 months, while the others face 4 months of suspension.

Adrian made it clear that he harbors no ill feelings towards Lochte. He’s even wishing him the best in his new Dancing with the Stars stint. On Monday night, Lochte and partner Cheryl Burke advanced to the next round of the show, which will take place on Monday, October 10th at 8 PM Eastern.

I read his interview on the Huntington Post. And he was quite thoughtful, articulate, respectful, and represented himself, USA Swimming, and the United States quite well at the Olympics. He is everything that I admire in a US Olympic athlete. I’m so glad that non-swimmers have media exposure to someone like him instead of just the bad publicity created by Lochte. Nathan’s parents really raised him well because his humble and respectful demeanor is really obvious to see. The fact that he is a sprinter is even cooler since I usually follow sprint events the most.

Really great article – I didn’t know much about his pre-Cal days. I had guessed he wasn’t very comfortable being in the media spotlight but I’m hoping he does more now that Phelps has retired.
