In the wake of her shiny new 50m backstroke American record, fans will now get to see 12-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin featured within the upcoming special edition of ESPN the Magazine’s “Body Issue”.
Coughlin will be among the 24 athletes featured within the special annual issue, which will also include gymnast Aly Raisman, basketball star Kevin Love and tennis gold medalist Stan Wawrinka. Of her appearance in the magazine’s feature, Coughlin commented to NBC Olympics, “One of the things I love about the Body Issue so much is that it celebrates the bodies that allow us to be successful in our sport. As a sports fan, I love seeing the differences in body types.”
No stranger to the spotlight, 32-year old Coughlin has collaborated with ESPN before, appearing in one of their pre-Olympics television advertisements in 2012. In a fun commercial, Coughlin does her best to protect gold from a menacing leprechaun. Earlier that same year, Coughlin’s body was on display within Sports Illustrated’s special SwimSuit issue, which was the year the magazine tried out “body painted” suits. Coughlin was featured wearing the infamous blue and white “wave-like” bikini within the special edition.
Michael Phelps was of course the most recent swimmer to have graced the cover of ESPN’s The Body Issue, as he was printed on one of six unique covers released last year. The elite athlete appeared totally nude, albeit in a tastefully discretionary pose, in the series released last July.
Coughlin’s issue of the Body Issue will be released online July 6th and in hard copy at newsstands beginning July 10th.

I can’t wait to see this! I have heard how flexible Natalie is, but have not fully seen it. The cover shot shows her double-jointed elbows very well.
You know who else belongs in the “Body Issue”? Katinka Hosszu, for obvious reasons.
I know a few women would like to see Nathan Adrian in the body issue.
