NASA Swimmers Impress at Brown Deer Sectionals (VIDEO)

At the 2016 Speedo Sectionals in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, NASA impressed with the contributions from some of their strongest swimmers. Check out the video above, courtesy of Reilly Lanigan, with the highlights from NASA’s experience at the meet.

NASA is a swim club run out of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. This past weekend at the Brown Deer Sectionals, they were led by rising college freshmen Reilly LaniganAzra AvdicJamie Kolar, and Iana Wolff along with rising high school seniors Ella Tierney and Olivia Andrew as well as 14-year-old Annika Wagner.

Avdic, who will swim at the University of Missouri next fall, won the 200 fly (2:13.92), placed 4th in the 400 IM (5:00.04) and 200 free (2:04.06), and touched 2nd in the 100 fly (1:00.99). Notre Dame-bound Lanigan was 2nd in the 200 free (2:02.57) and 200 IM (2:20.34) as well as 4th in the 400 free (4:21.37), while Tierney, a senior at Loyola Academy in the Chicago suburbs, touched 2nd in the 800 free (8:58.14) and 6th in the 400 free (4:22.10).

University of Illinois-bound Kolar touched 7th in the 100 back (1:04.48), while Wolff was 10th in the 100 fly (1:03.56) and Wagner 8th in the 200 IM (2:25.65). Wolff will be swimming for Michigan State this fall as a freshman.

NASA put together several quick relays, but their 800 free relay was most impressive. Tierney (2:03.96), Lanigan (2:02.27), Andrew (2:05.90) and Avdic (2:04.74) combined for a time of 8:16.87, finishing eight seconds ahead of Stanford commit Katie Drabot and 2nd-place Ozaukee Aquatics out of Wisconsin.

In terms of team scoring, NASA finished 2nd overall at the meet with 357 points.

Reilly Lanigan finished 3rd in the 400 free with a 4:17.31 in an impressive final heat followed by Kirsten Jacobsen at 4:17.55. Top four finishers all under the US Open time. Very fast swimming!
