Additional names now appear on the unofficial roster for Japan for this summer’s postponed Olympic Games with just 3 days of competition remaining.
Among the newcomers was a surprise runner-up in the men’s 200m breaststroke in Ryuya Mura. 24-year-old Mura posted the swim of his life to check-in with an Olympics-worthy time of 2:07.58, shutting out former world record holder Ippei Watanabe in the process. Entering these Trials, Mura’s career-quickest was pointed at the 2:08.15 he logged just last December.
Fly aficionado Suzuka Hasegawa dipped under the respective QT in the women’s 200m fly, while seasoned national record holder Katsumi Nakamura made it happen in the men’s 100m free.
