MSU Women Earn Victory Over Toledo

East Lansing, MI, November 7, 2014 – The University of Toledo Rocket (UT) women fell to the Michigan State Spartans (MSU) at McCaffree Pool this weekend in a final meet score of 187-110.  The Spartans solidly defended their home in a series of event sweeps and double relay domination to earn the decisive win.

Leading off the Spartans’ eleven total event wins was the 200 medley relay foursome of Chanel Bonin (freshman), Shelby Lacy (senior), Sarah Love (sophomore), and Racheal Bukowski (freshman), whose combined time of 1:44.16 kicked off the meet in first place.  Toledo answered right back, however, with an immediate win in the 1650 freestyle by junior Mary Dombkowski (17:23.33) followed by teammate Brooke Edwards’ 1:53.26 winning time in the 200 free.  Edwards (junior) would later also win the 100 freestyle for the Rockets in a time of 52.13.

The Toledo women were also strong in the 200 butterfly event, as German freshman Katrin Streicher (2:06.63), junior Lauren Comer (2:09.88), and Mary Dombkowski (2:15.50) swept that event to keep the Rockets within striking distance (note: all other swimmers in the event were exhibition).

But, it wasn’t enough to hold off the stampeding Spartans, who would go on to sweep the 50 freestyle, with Sarah Love earning first in 24.16, followed by teammates Macy Moore (24.33) and Racheal Bukowski (24.55).  MSU also went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM event, led by Elizabeth Brown in her winning time of 2:07.52; Spartans Kennedy Cutler (2:10.84) and Mia Baric (2:11.04) would finish second and third, respectively.  MSU finished out the meet with a solid win in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:35.70

The Spartans move on to the Northwestern Illinois Invite in Evanston, IL beginning on November 21st, while the Toledo Rockets have a competition reprieve until the Miami (OH) Invite slated for December 4th-December 6th.
