More than 40 USMS records fall at Masters Spring Nationals

More than 40 different Masters National records fell at the short course national championship in San Antonio this weekend, including a number to some former Olympians.

One of the meet’s highlights was a series of races between Olympic champion backstroker Matt Grevers and Olympic champion sprinter Anthony Ervin in the men’s 30-34 class.

Grevers seemed to mostly get the upper hand. He topped Ervin in the 100 IM 47.78 to 49.23 and broke the national record in the age group. More unexpected was the 50 free, where Grevers eked out a win over Ervin by .01, 19.71 to 19.72. Neither approached Ervin’s national record of 19.33.
