RIVERDALE, NY – The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams each earned critical conference victories on Saturday afternoon at Fieldston High School.
The women’s team defeated both Manhattan and Siena, while the men’s team knocked off its lone opponent, Manhattan. The men moved to 6-1 on the year, while the women improved to 4-4.
Freshmen Callan Smith and Camryn McHugh continued their dominance as each won three individual races and were part of winning relay teams. Smith broke his team record in the 1,000 free and McHugh set a new team record in the 100 fly.

– Freshman Camryn McHugh won three races (100 back, 200 back, 100 fly) to increase her season total to 16 individual wins. McHugh finished the 100 back in 58.92 and the 200 back in 2:09.38.
– McHugh set a new team record in the 100 fly with her time of 58.85.
– Freshman Sarah Brennan won the 500 free (5:26.71) to win her third race of the season.
– Rookie Lauren Baines won the 400-yard IM (4.50.21). She has five victories in her freshman campaign.
– McHugh, Jaclyn Greening, Muriel Maloney and Bradie Keelan won the 200-yard medley relay with their time of 1:51.78.
– Rookie Callan Smith earned three first-place finishes in the meet. Smith has 17-place finishes for the 2018-19 season. Smith broke his own team record in the 1,000 free with his time of 9:42.39. He also won the 200 back (1:59.94) and 500 free (4:53.49).
– Valance Washington won two events on Saturday. He took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.46) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.18) to claim the fourth and fifth wins of his rookie season.
– Freshman Dylan Barkhuizen increased his victory total to eight with his 100-yard butterfly time of 52.35 and his 200-yard butterfly finish of 1:58.19.
– Freshman Kevin Del Giorno won the 100-yard backstroke by touching the wall in 55.27. Del Giorno’s triumph was the first individual win of his college career.
– Sophomore Ethan Lucas won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.32. Lucas has won the 50 free five times this season and he has six-career first-place finishes.
– Sophomore Trevor Askew took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.58. Askew has won three races this season, all in the 200-yard breaststroke. Askew increased his career win total to six.
– Monmouth’s men won the 200-yard medley relay. Smith, D’Angelo, Barkhuizen and Lucas combined for the victory with a time of 1:38.21.

Monmouth’s next competition is the ECAC Championships in East Meadow, NY. The Championships begin Friday, Nov. 30 and finish on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Siena swimming recorded three individual event wins, three personal-best times, 11 season-best marks and its first win of the 2018-19 season Saturday afternoon. The Saints defeated MAAC foe Manhattan, 143-116, while falling to Monmouth 142.5-118.5 in a conference tri-meet in Riverdale, NY.
Seniors Emma Rupert and Elizabeth Fouriner and junior Larissa Nanna were among the swimmers to post a season-best at the team’s final regular-season competition of the 2018 calendar year. Rupert was victorious in the 100 yd freestyle with a time of 11:09.24 and swam her best 400-yard individual medley performance of the year, clocking in a 4:53,97 to finish second. Nanna took the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best mark of 2:33.18, while Fournier won the 200-yard butterfly, posting a 1-2 finish with fellow-senior Julianna Sebastian, and improved on her time in the 100-yard running of the event with 1:00.85.
Among other swimmers to post high marks on the campaign during the team’s second tri-meet and sixth overall competition this year was senior Carrie Bonvissuto, who broke her personal time in the 100-yard freestyle with a 56.89. Sophomore Sydney Lautenslager set a new personal mark in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:24.22, while freshman Isabel Harms did so in the 400-yard IM with a 4:56.66.
Additionally, the squad recorded its best time in the 200-yard medley relay to-date this year, with the combination of Abigail Sheridan, Shannon Leary, Fournier & Rachel Brown laying down a 1:55.20 in the race. The team’s victory over the Jaspers improves their head-to-head record in the series to a perfect 13-0, dating back to the 2001-02 campaign.
Through six regular season events this season, the Saints will now focus their attention on the ECAC Winter Championships, which will make the end of their Fall 2018 slate. The postseason meet, which features teams from throughout the eastern seaboard, will be held in East Meadow, NY from Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

Riverdale, NY – Before Manhattan swimming and diving challenged Monmouth and Siena in a MAAC tri-meet, the Jaspers recognized their nine-member senior class on Saturday afternoon at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School.
In a Senior Day ceremony, Manhattan celebrated seniors Abie DeLisio, Morgan Fountain, Genna Lederer, Klaudia Nagrabska, Megan Pagano, Cassandra Rubino, Kathryn Voitik, Evan Battisti and Tameryn Huffman. Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Marianne Reilly and Assistant Athletic Director William Aloia Jr. presented each Jasper with a senior plaque as public address announcer Martin Collins listed their career accomplishments.
In the pool, the Hawks topped the Jasper men’s and women’s team 165-94 and 158-101, respectively. The women’s team narrowly fell to Siena, 143-116.
The Jaspers will turn their attention to the 2018 ECAC Winter Championships, which begin on Friday, November 30 at 6:00 pm the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, NY. The event lasts until Sunday, December 2.
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- It was a tremendous outing for junior Kelsey Eastman (Effort, PA / Wagner). She took home three individual golds while accumulating season-bests in the 100 Breast (1:09.27), 50 Free (25.16 seconds) and 100 Free (55.35 seconds).
- Eastman also combined with Fountain, classmate Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook Senior) and freshman Jamie Quinn (Fairfax, VA / WT Woodson). Eastman, Nembach and Fountain went first, second and fourth in the 50 Free.
- Freshman Sarah Hamilton (Auckland, New Zealand / St. Cuthbert’s College) captured first place in the 200 Free with a time of 2:01.39. She later nabbed the bronze in the 400 IM in 5:56.50.
- Quinn, Nagrabska, Rubino and Nembach finished second in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:54.88.
- In addition to her relay performances, Quinn also medaled in the 100 Back, recording a season-best 1:02.98 to place third.
- Junior Carolyn Crocker (Broad Channel, NY / Archbishop Molloy) was third in the 500 Free thanks to a time of 5:31.43, a personal best for her this season.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA / Pocono Mountain East) was first place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.26. He was also the fastest Jasper in the 200 Fly at 2:11.26, placing third.
- Classmate Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) was the fastest swimmer in the 100 Breast with a first-place time of 1:00.45, a season-best for a Jasper.
- The Manhattan men excelled in relays, as the quartet of Battisti, sophomores Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) and Derek Lederer (Blauvelt, NY / Tappan Zee) and freshman Matthew Shen (Waxhaw, NC / Marvin Ridge) won the 200 Free Relay in 1:29.11. The Jaspers also had two relay teams place second in the 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay.
- Freshman Branden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa / Crawford College Lonehill) collected two silvers, stemming from his efforts in the 500 Free (4:54.11) and the 1000 Free (10:11.01).
- Classmate Kyle Bergin (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook Senior) also earned a pair of second-place marks, with his results in the 100 Free (49.12 seconds) and the 200 Free (1:48.48).
- In the 200 Breast, junior Will Kulp (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield), Valentine and freshman Sean Flynn (Suffern, NY / Suffern Senior) went third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Shen was third in the 100 Back in 56.85 seconds.
THE SENIOR CLASS OF 2019
Abie DeLisio
- She is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- She finished as Manhattan’s second-fastest 1650-yard Freestyle swimmer at the 2018 MAAC championships.
- In the past two seasons, she recorded two wins against Baruch College in the 800 Short-Course Meter Freestyle and the 500-yard Freestyle.
- She will graduate in May with a degree in marketing.
Morgan Fountain
- She is a four-year member and a captain of Jasper swimming.
- She is part of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay that holds the school record after setting it in the 2018 MAAC championships.
- A versatile swimmer, she competed in four disciplines at the 2017 ECAC Winter Championships.
- She will graduate in May with a degree in communications with a concentration in broadcasting.
Genna Lederer
- A four-year member of Jasper swimming, she did her best work in the ECACs.
- In her sophomore campaign, she established a personal best in the 100-yard Backstroke.
- Last season, she reached season-bests in the 50 and 100-yard Freestyle in the 2017 ECAC Winter Championships.
- She will graduate in May with a degree in civil engineering.
Klaudia Nagrabska
- She is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- She is part of the school records in the women’s 200 and 400-yard Medley Relays, both set last year in the MAAC Championships.
- In addition, she won the “B” final last year in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a career-best.
- She will graduate in May with a degree in marketing.
Megan Pagano
- She is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- She also swam legs in the record-breaking 200- and 400-yard Medley Relays in last year’s MAAC Championships.
- She also swam the fastest 100 and 200-yard Backstroke in her freshman year, and placed 12th in the latter event at the 2017 ECAC Winter Championships.
- A 2018 MAAC All-Academic selection, she will graduate in May with a degree in accounting.
Cassandra Rubino
- She is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- She was Manhattan’s top finisher in the 200-yard Butterfly in last year’s tri-meet against Monmouth and Siena.
- In the past two seasons, she has placed in the top 20 in the 100-yard Butterfly at the ECAC Winter Championships and was 12th in the event at the 2017 MAAC Championships.
- A 2018 MAAC All-Academic selection, she will graduate in May with a degree in mathematics and education.
Kathryn Voitik
- She is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- She currently holds three school records in the 500, 1000 and 1650-yard Freestyle.
- She was Manhattan’s top finisher in the 1650 Free at the 2018 MAAC Championships and won the gold in the 500 Free in the dual meet at Pepperdine last season.
- She will graduate in May with a degree in communications with a concentration in broadcasting.
Evan Battisti
- He is a four-year member and a captain of Jasper swimming.
- His etched his name in three school records last year: the 500- and 1650-yard Freestyle as well as the 800-yard Freestyle Relay.
- In 2017, he also notched two top-10 marks in the ECAC Winter Championships and was first in the 1000 Free in the Brooklyn Invite and the dual meet vs. Monmouth.
- He will graduate in May with a degree in accounting.
Tameryn Huffman
- He is a four-year member of Jasper swimming.
- He started his career with the fastest time on the roster in the 200-yard Backstroke.
- Last year, he had three top-25 finishes in the 100 and 200 Back as well as the 400 IM.
- He will graduate in May with a degree in biochemistry and pre-med allied health.
