The speed may be only just blossoming by Omaha — a luxury for her that she may not have to begin a real taper until after the Trials. Even without it she should have enough speed to do, oh, under a minute (of how many other female backstrokers could one EVER say that nonchalantly? Two?). You’ll see the real speed in Rio. She’ll at least challenge her ’12 London time. This is doubtless. This woman is never not cheerful, and THAT, above all else (except obviously for putting the work in, though it isn’t far down the list — they’ve got to both be there, whether the cheerfulness comes through to the exterior) carries her through it and to it,… Read more »

This video shows who Missy is. She is an EXCELLENT ambassador for USA Swimming and swimming in general. You can tell how see how she doesn’t want to be rude to the interviewer – but her excitement is with the kids above her looking for an opportunity to have her sign something or just say hi. Thank God she’s part of USA Swimming.

I love Missy. She’s adorable. So cool with her fans.

And I agree. Her endurance is there. She swam a great double 200 free/200 back and overall the same kind of times she did 4 years ago at the same meet.
Her speed is not there yet but no doubt it will come with taper.
All the prophets of doom and other declinologists present on swimswam will eat their hats.

Messr. Gigi,
We have the same favorite swimmer! I love Missy, too!
We believe Missy will deliver when it counts, like she always do!
Yes, I agree with you, let’s get all these garden variety prophets of doom and decline-ologists some ghastly-looking, unpalatable hats for them to eat on day of reckoning!

Speed will arrive at the end of taper, just in time for the big show in Omaha!

Stephen enjoys chirping. I wonder if our assertive songbird will be singing the same notes (or at all) post Omaha.

Oh, but I have never taken these kind of predictions anywhere as serious as Messr. Gigi anyway 🙂
Missy will be fine no matter what, she will go to Rio even if she has just one individual event to swim, she’s made lifetime friends at CAL and she’s cashing in.
I’ll keep chirping and singing no matter what happens post-Omaha, believe you me 😀
