St. Joseph, Missouri Central High School’s Audrey Schank has committed to swim at Ball State University for 2017-18. A backstroker and freestyler, Schank earned All-State honors by placing third at the Missouri High School State Championships last year in the 100 back with 57.01. Kevin Bigham, the St Joe Central High School swim coach, told SwimSwam, “No one has worked harder than Audrey to make it to this level. Audrey’s got an unbelievable level of commitment and focus that separates her from any athlete I’ve ever coached.”
Schank will be an asset to the Cardinals, who finished eighth at the 2016 MAC Championships. She would have added points in the 100 back, just squeaking into the B final (MAC only scores an A and a B final), and would have been 1.4 seconds away from scoring in the 200 back. Ball State did not score points in either event last year. Schank also would have added firepower to both the Cardinals’ medley relays.
Schank swims year-round for Club North Swimming. Her best SCY times are:
- 50 back – 26.04
- 100 back – 57.01
- 200 back – 2:05.28
- 50 free – 24.85
- 100 free – 54.96
- 50 breast – 32.10
- 100 breast – 1:09.30
Schank will join Kayla Molnar in the Ball State University class of 2021. She declared, “I am very excited to continue doing what I love. I wouldn’t be here without the support and motivation of my family, friends and coaches. #gocards”
