Minnesota Sprinter Hannah Baratz to Join Emory Eagles

Emory has picked up another stellar sprinter in Minnesota high schooler, Hannah Baratz. She swims for the Rochester Swim Club and competes in high school for Mayo High School.

Baratz’s best events are the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the club season, she posted a 23.57 in the 50, and will be looking to better that mark and reset the Mayo High School record in the 50. Baratz has made some big improvements, including placing 5th in the 50 last year after only making consolation finals at high school states her sophomore year.

Backstroke has been a new(er) addition to Baratz’ schedule, though she has already put up a strong 57.13 (yards) and 1:05.64 (meters) during club season. More recently, in high school, she also posted a 56.86 to qualify for States. Her 100 freestyle (52.08) may also end up landing her some relay spots with the Emory Eagles in the coming season.

Baratz was also named an Academic All-American for the 2013-14 season. Requirements for the status are as follows: a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year (Baratz has a perfect 4.0) and a time equal to a 2011 Junior National bonus time posted during the SAA qualification period (Baratz posted one in the 50 and 100 freestyles and 100 backstroke).

Emory – already a sprint power at the DIII level – will certainly be able to put this talented young woman to good use on their squad.
