Kasey Milstroh, a freestyler from Saint Cloud, Minnesota, deciding to remain in state, gave a verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota for the 2017-18 season. Milstroh had this to say about her decision:
“I chose the University of Minnesota for many reasons. I remember the very first time I had ever swam in the pool. I thought it was the greatest thing ever and it had been my dream ever since to swim for the Golden Gophers. Over the next couple of years I had swim at the aquatic center many times and I always have swam much faster there. I would say 90% of my best times were swam there. Also when I was thirteen years old I had entered a camp that was being held at the University of Minnesota. This is where I had met the coaches for the first time and I really liked them. Over the last year I visited a few other colleges, but they didn’t stand out to me like the U of M did. A few of my Friends had said to me that I wasn’t as excited when I came home from them as I was after my U of M visit. One day in practice I walked over to my coach and said ‘Mrs. Piepgras I want to go to the University of Minnesota’ and she just smiled ‘Well it looks like you have decided.’ After I had decided I felt a weight lifted from my shoulders. I have never been more excited for college then I am now. I can’t wait to become a Golden Gopher!” [sic]
Milstroh is the reigning Minnesota Class A state champion in the 500 freestyle and runner-up in the 200 free. Swimming for Foley High School at the 2015 MSHSL Girls A Swim & Dive Championships last November, she won the 500 with 5:01.00 and went 1:51.43 in the 200 to claim the silver. She also split 24.74 and 51.49 on the 4×50 and 4×100 free relays, respectively.
Milstroh swims year-round for St Cloud YMCA Swim Club. A Winter Juniors qualifier in the 50 free, she renewed most of her LCM times this summer. At the Minnesota Senior State Long Course Championships this summer, Milstroh was a top-8 finalist in the 50/100/200m free, 100m back, and 100m fly, and a B-finalist in the 400m free and 200m IM. Her best SCY times are:
- 50 free – 24.10
- 100 free – 51.75
- 200 free – 1:50.61
- 500 free – 5:01.00
Milstroh will join Abbey Erwin, Britt Horn, Emma Hepper, Mackenzie Padington, and Patricia Van Law in the Minnesota class of 2021.
