Mie Nielsen Claims Two More Titles on Night 2 of Danish SC

Mie Nielsen continues to be the top swimming star on hand at the Danish Short Course Nationals. She won two titles on day two, both in somewhat off events: the 200 backstroke and 200 IM.

Nielsen swam 2:11.77 to win the medley, well of Julie Hjorth-Hansen’s national record of 2:07.08. Nielsen has dabbled in the IM races at the domestic level, she also won the 100 the day before, but never had a major breakthrough internationally. She won bronze at the European Championships in the 100 in 2011. Nielsen won comfortably in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.29.

Nielsen’s teammate Viktor Bromer was victorious in the 200 IM with ease as the only swimmer under 2:00 at 1:58.38. Bromer was well back of his own national record (1:54.86). Bromer does not typically swim this event at international meets, focusing mainly on butterfly.

Josefine Pedersen, a finalist at the inaugural European Games this past summer, set a Danish junior record in the 100 breastroke to win that event (1:08.34)

Other victories on the night:

  • Line Jørgensen Bruun in the 400 freestyle (4:09.34)
  • Lasse Dall in 50 butterfly (24.45)
  • Amelie Mikkelsen in 50 butterfly (26.52)
  • Niklas Hedegaard in 100 breaststroke (59.76)
  • Magnus Jakupsson in the 50 Backstroke (24.25). Marco Loughran went faster in an unofficial swim (24.05)
  • Daniel Skaaning in a tight victory in the 200 freestyle 1:46.56
