Mid-South Conference Commissioner Eric Ward, announced the addition on Midland (Neb.) as an affiliate member of the conference in men’s and women’s swimming, on Friday.
The Mid-South Conference Council of Presidents unanimously approved Midland as an affiliate member, beginning with the 2017-18 academic year.
“We are very excited to welcome Midland to the Mid-South Conference as an affiliate member,” Ward said. “The addition only enhances Mid-South swimming while providing the student-athletes and coaches with a platform to compete for conference championships.
“We look forward to working with the Midland coaches and administrators and watching their student-athletes compete in the Mid-South.”
Midland — located in Fremont, Nebraska — becomes the eighth institution in the MSC to sponsor swimming, joining Bethel (Tenn.), Campbellsville (Ky.), Cumberlands (Ky.), Life (Ga.), Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Loyola (La.).
“Midland University is proud to be a member of the Mid-South Conference in men’s and women’s swimming,” said Ryan Bubb, head coach of the Warriors’ swimming programs. “The Mid-South Conference Championship meet is a highly competitive event with some of the top teams in the NAIA, which will allow our swimmers to compete at a high-level meet before the NAIA National Championships.
“A fast conference championship meet paired with the weekly and end of the season awards for the swimmers will add incentive for fast in-season swimming.”
With the addition of the Warriors, the Mid-South Conference boasts 21 affiliate members, to go along with eight full members.
