Following the news about Michael Phelps’ court appearance where he plead guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and was handed a one-year suspended prison sentence along with 18 months of supervised probation, Phelps took to Twitter to once again reach out to the public concerning the situation.
On his personal Twitter account Phelps Tweeted the following message in six parts.
“The past three months of my life have been some of the hardest time I’ve ever gone through, and the biggest learning experience that I have” (1/6)
“ever had. As I hoped, I learned a lot about myself during my time away and now have the tools to continue to learn and grow from all of this” (2/6)
“. What I did was wrong and I will share my experience with others and hope that I can help make a difference.” (3/6)
“I know I still have work to do but I have great support around me and look forward to a brighter future.” (4/6)
“I am back in the pool training and have set new goals for myself in and out of swimming for 2015 and beyond.” (5/6)
“I’m so thankful for those who have supported me during this difficult time in my life!!! I love you all!!” (6/6)
His tweets back up previous statements made that he would return to competition in the United States following the completion of his suspension from USA Swimming which will allow him to compete at the last three Grand Prix meets of the season. Phelps is also expected to swim at a World Cup stop in France later in the year according to the French Swimming Federation.
wow, i’m thrilled to know that MP is back in the pool training & also set new goals for himself in & out of swimming. told ya… Michael Phelps is still Michael Phelps. he won’t let the negativity stops him from achieving his goals….and this is one of the reasons why i love the guy. 😀

How many of us have seen Iron Man? I, II, or III? Seems like that guy had some issues, yet we fork over $22.99 for the Blu Ray.
Phelps is cut from the same cloth as Jordan, Cobb, Tiger, and of course…Iron Man. We celebrate their accomplishments. It takes a certain kind of person to achieve them. Ask Spitz, or for that matter another Iron guy…Iron Mike.
If he is truly in recovery, his future is in his higher power, all he can control or concentrate on is his presence.
For me, he has been a disgrace to the sport I love. I wouldn’t aspire to him if I were a kid again.
Disagree. Champions have responsibilities beyond the “sport.” And cheating is not more serious…putting peoples lives at risk is more serious. What is a champion anyway if he or she can not set an example beyond their sport? I said a million times I hope for HIS sake he solves his problem and has a fantastic future. If it includes swimming, great. But stop acting as if there is nothing wrong and it is an overreaction to consider this a big deal.
I am sure u know better ! same sentence i have read here dozens of times since september .
Get over this man , u are better we know . Open a school to show people how to master inner impulses coming from frustrations , lack of self-esteem or any other distorted behavior before they take the car and Drink & Drive . There , u will be able to tell them what u seem to know better . How does that sound ?
Good to see him back. His future is now controlled by himself.Show us what you can do.I’m sure his best mate Ryan will show him the way and be glad to see him back.Go boys!.
Best wishes to the greatest for the future.
You made a big mistake. No doubt about that. It could have been tragic.
But everybody makes mistakes. Nobody is perfect.
It’s clear, and it can be tough sometimes, that you must never forget you are a model for thousands of kids.
Hopefully you have learned a lot and you will grow a lot after that.
Now hopefully the American fans will not turn against one’s former love. It’s so easy to give morality lessons. Never forget what Michael Phelps has brought to the sport overall and to the American team. He has not cheated. As a sportsman, it would have been much more serious. There are probably… Read more »
US fans would love to have Bobo Gigi as a commentator for the world cup series in Chartes. 😀 😀
will we see you there?
He seems to realize that he has to grow up, get clean and sober and healthy and stay that way. Phelps has to become more responsible in several areas of his life from here out because the courts will not look kindly on him if he were to have another mess up. He has been very lucky,
He is a great Olympian and I hope that can find strength and support in his family, (true) friends and associates, team mates and even his fans.
I hope things go better for him from now on and I hope to see him in Rio in or out of the pool.
