Michael Milinovich of the Academy Bullets Swim Club recently has given his verbal commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers. Milinovich attends West Aurora High School in an outer suburb of Chicago, but competes only in club swimming. He has an Olympic Trials standard (4:25.66) in the 400 IM that he recorded this past July on his way to taking 3rd place in the NCSA Junior Nationals in Indianapolis.
I chose University of Wisconsin-Madison because the academics there are world class and the swim program at Wisconsin will take my swimming to the next level
Milinovich’s best times are as follows (All in SCY):
- 500 Free: 4:25.08
- 200 Fly: 1:46.79
- 200 IM: 1:50.05
- 400 IM: 3:53.39
Milinovich projects to be a point scorer for the Badgers right away, his 500 freestyle and 400 IM would have placed him in the C-Final at last year’s B1G Championships, while his 200 fly would have him in the B-Final. In fact, his 200 fly would have beaten all of last year’s Wisconsin swimmers except for graduating senior Nicholas Caldwell. The Wisconsin Men have been much more competitive in the B1G and NCAA level under coach Whitney Hite and this signing will help them continue that success. Milinovich’s commitment, along with that of Cooper Hodge out of Ohio, show that Hite and his staff are recruiting effectively in rival territory.
As for Milinovich, he’s already setting goals to “make an A-Final (at the Big Ten Championships) and make NCAAs” before his time in Madison is up. Lofty ambitions, but not unrealistic for a swimmer who improved his 500 freestyle from 4:34 the year before.
