Michael Hinge Takes On A New Role With The Herning Swim Club

For the past eight years Michael Hinge has worked as the head of talent development for the Danish Swimming Federation, a job that he resigned from on February 17th, taking on a new challenge as the Sports Manager of the Herning Swim Club.

“I see some interesting perspectives in Herning, and especially look forward to the process of preparing the club and the local area for the future with a new long course pool,” Hinge told the Danish Swimming Federation.

There will be a new 50 meter pool built in Herning with construction scheduled to be completed by 2015. Part of his decision to take the job with the club was the opportunity to create a performance centre, “There really is an opportunity to create a centre where we can attract talent,” said Hinge. “The key word is talent. We must be good at both recruiting from the ranks, from the local area and at all levels.”

“I am sure that the result will be noticed and hopefully resonate throughout the country.”

Hinge is walking into a very interesting situation as the Herning Swim Club has been without a Head Coach since November.

Hinge will be coaching a group along with being in charge of talent development. One of his first projects will be to visit all of the coaches in the program so that the club can create a united training plan.

Sports Director Mikkel von Seelen is sad to see Hinge leave his post within the federation, but is happy that he is staying in the country, “It will be hard to replace Michael and I would have liked him to continue in the job,” said von Seelen.

“On the other hand, I rejoice that Michael has chosen to remain in Danish swimming, and I’m quite sure that he is the right person to develop Herning Swim Club, which is facing a milestone in the building of a long course pool. I am convinced that we will have a constructive relationship going forward.”

Hinge’s last day with the Danish Swimming Federation will be March 31st and he will begin his new position immediately.
