Michael Andrew Swims 2:20.81 200 Breast Prelim On Final Day Of Sectionals

2022 SOUTHERN ZONE SOUTH SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Olympian Michael Andrew was back in action at Sectionals on Sunday morning. Andrew swam the 200 breaststroke in a 2:20.81, which is roughly 9 seconds slower than his 2021 PB in the event of 2:11.32. He’ll race the final as third seed behind Luca Pfyffer (2:17.97) and Julio Horrego (2:18.46).

On the women’s side, Gracie Weyant was the quickest breaststroke in the field with a 2:35.96, while Emily Santos and Julie Brousseau were also under 2:40 with a 2:38.46 and 2:38.56, respectively. Weyant of the Sarasota Sharks holds a PB of 2:31.10 in the event from Wave 1 of Olympic Trials in June 2021.

The women’s 100 freestyle prelims set the stage for an exciting final after 5 women swam between 57.39 and 57.99. 200 freestyle bronze medalist Addison Sauickie swam that 57.39 to get the top seed, which is 0.66 slower than her entry time of 56.73.

Marina Spadoni was also slower than her entry time, hitting a 57.55 in the heats for second overall, trailing her 56.09. Spadoni has, however, been as fast as a 55.86 before back in 2020. Zoe Skirboll was third with a 57.81, while Blair Stoneburg and Elan Daley also dipped under 58 with a 57.98 and 57.99, respectively.

Notably, Natalie Hinds scratched from the 100 freestyle following her second-place finish in the 200 freestyle and victories in the 50 fly and 50 free.

Hinds’ fellow Florida-trained Olympian Caeleb Dressel was also absent from the 100 freestyle heats, leaving Bolles swimmer Andres Dupont Cabrera to lead the field into finals with a 51.38. In May 2021 Dupont Cabera delivered a sub-50 swim of 49.92 at the Mizuno Atlanta Classic. Sage Sungail swam a 52.52 for second place, while Bolles swimmer Jack Hall posted a 52.99 for third.

Lockett Bowley (2:16.54) and Martin Espernberger (2:02.70) swam the fastest times in the women’s and men’s 200 butterfly, respectively.

Maybe we should wait until after the finals to see where he (and everybody else) finishes?

I don’t get by CD scratched the last day at a meet in his home pool. 🤷‍♂️

There is no plane to catch.

MA looked awesome in the 200 IM. Nice swim. His freestyle technique looks better.

His freestyle looked better because his first 50 was practically 2 seconds slower than his absurd pacing at Trials and the Games.

He was out in 25.13. Ryan Lochte WR split 24.89, MP WR split 24.13 MA split was 1.2 seconds slower than what he went out at Trials. He was 0.9 seconds slower than what he was out in Tokyo finals.

Wonder why no article on him swimming the 100 Breast in the 400 IM? Disrespected his fellow competitors with that move. Never mind the fact that time trials were going to start 5-10 minutes after the 400 IM’s. No words.

When Carson foster did something similar at a pro series (200 IM instead of fly or something along those lines) I’m pretty sure swim swam reported on it

Ohhh is this why he was DQ’ed? I wasn’t following it closely enough and didn’t see a race video posted.

“Disrespected his fellow competitors” is a bit of a stretch

I think it’s kind of arrogant… imagine this being your big taper meet and you’re swimming the 400im, which is no joke to begin with, and then you notice that the high profile person you’re probably anxious to have in your heat swims the wrong event on purpose. As a competitor I don’t know if I would find it more frustrating if MA were to get get out of the pool while others were finishing the race or if he used it for warm down

He did swim the 400 IM and got DQ’d. He swam a time trial of the 100 breast.

not disagreeing, but its a little funny that you made that exact comment on like 5 different articles so far and always end it with your claim that you “have no words” for it.

looks like words to me but idk

Hinds and Dressel swam the 100 last night in time trials. Hinds went 54.7 and Dressel went 49.7
