Michael Andrew is one of only 18 Americans who has opted to travel to Doha in February for the 2024 World Championships. At the last 2 world championships that Andrew has competed at he has made history, becoming the first swimmer ever to final in all four 50s (2019) and the first to medal in three 50s (Fly, Breast, and Free, 2022).
In Doha, Andrew is competing in all four 50s once again with the goal of becoming the first person to medal in all four at the World Champs.
There’s a race where those who can swim all strokes 50m get to show off their skills, oh wait, its a 200, scratch that. 1 at a time for MA
The 100 IM is the sprinters IM but it’s only in the small pool.
MA has the chance to medal in every event and even the coaches will use him as a prelim breststroker, flyer in mixed medly or MM..and also i am curious about what will be his 100 free split on a relay giving the fact that how fast his 50 free is..i m sure he has a 47s split within him..
But , I really do hope USA could have lower their WR time further if they have used Fink on that day at tokyo..since of fink was 3rd at Olympic trials in 100 breast and fink always put fast splits as a reliable relay swimmer..
MA’s lifetime best in the 100 free is 49.0. It’s perplexing that a guy who has been ranked top 12 in the world in all 3 stroke 100’s AND the 50 free can’t put together a better 100 free than that.
Let me guess…… by swimming a bunch of 50s?
Offering all four 50’s at every level all the way up to the Olympics would be the best thing to ever happen to swimming. I appreciate the revolutionary thinking that happened to make the 1500 available for women and the 8 for men. But honestly, that didn’t really make swimming more exciting for the general public and it doesn’t open as much participation. And if they really want to make it interesting then set it up in a dual format of top 8, top 4, top 2.
I’d watch Short vs Hafnaoui any day over a bunch of splashing in stroke 50s
Fink vs Hafnaoui in 1500 free..now watching the distance swimming is gives us chills..
its all fun and games till the Olympics roll around and he’s completely useless
MA’s Olympic gold medal disagrees with you.
the relay? that he was the weakest part of? and wont be a part of again? meanig hes useless??
It’s an impressive feat to call an Olympic Gold medalist, World record holder (in the 4×100 medley relay), 4th fastest American in History (8th overall) in the 200IM, and American record holder in the100 Breast useless. I’ve got plenty of opinions on Michael Andrew (as most people in the community do), but this takes it to a whole new level.
Yall are missing the point. at worlds 2024 he’s swimming 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, and 50 free. His medal chances this Olympics are zero. 50s stroke don’t exist, he won’t be on a relay, and in the 50 free he’ll get obliterated by McEvoy, Dressel, Flo, Proud, Fratus, Held, Alexy, and Crooks, wherever he races each of those.
Let me repeat, at the Olympics this year, MA will not medal.
I doubt he even makes the team.
It’s unlikely, but it IS possible that he medals in the 50FR.
Where he dove in first and touched third?
Im all for these MA baiting articles
It would be nice to see him actually grind and get back under 1:00/51
World Cup he went 51.6 in 100 fly. US Open he went 59.5 100 breast Merry Christmas
all still nowhere near his PBs… and terribly inconsistent results are frustrating to see
Loving these provocative MA articles. The comment section is always so much fun to read.
Yeah brings out the worst of all the trolls
I love to watch him race. The 50’s are exciting to watch.
