The Miami women’s swimming & diving team (coached separately from the men’s program) has announced that Mark Davis will be the new coach of the program, taking over for the Miami legend Dave Jennings. Jennings retired earlier this year after 31 years in charge of the program.
Who better to take over for a legend than his understudy: Davis has spent the last 6 seasons as Jennings’ assistant.
“We’re real excited to have Mark Davis take the position to become our next head coach and build on the success that he has helped be a part of with Dave Jennings and his staff,” said Athletic Director David Sayler. “We look for Mark to continue the trend of winning MAC Championships, graduating our student-athletes and letting them achieve records in the classroom, which they’ve been doing the last few years, as well.”
During the Jennings-Davis years, the team won MAC Championships in 2009 and 2013, and the team had 16 individual MAC Champions. They’ve also sent swimmers to the NCAA Championships in four of those six years, including the program’s first All-American Kelsey Vehr.
Davis quickly adapted to his first college job. Until 2007, he spent over a decade as the head coach of Ohio swimming power Centerville High School and the WTRC Sharks from 1992-2007. He coached a swimmer to the Olympic Trials semi-finals while with the Sharks.
