Member of Israeli National Water Polo Team Dies in Fighting with Palestine

The rising tensions and fighting between Israel and Palestine has hit close to home for the aquatic community, as a member of the Israeli National water polo team was killed in fighting on Saturday night.

21-year old Bar Rahav was one of two Israeli soldiers who were killed on Saturday night, according to debka.com – reportedly when an anti-tank missile was fired on his unit. Rahav, a First Lieutenant, was serving as a combat engineer.

Rahav was a star of Israel water polo, and his team Kiryat Tiv’on won the national club championship while he was in high school. Despite being offered a special position for his mandatory military service, Rahav opted to participate in a combat unit instead.

He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant posthumously.
