EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern’s men and women travel to Iowa City this weekend to face ranked Iowa squads in a Big Ten dual meet showdown at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
For the NU men, this meet will be a site preview of the 2015 Big Ten Championships, which Iowa will host Feb. 25-28. Live results for this Saturday are available courtesy of Hawkeyesports.com.
Iowa visited Northwestern last year for the Wildcats’ Senior Day. The NU men claimed an incredibly exciting 151-149 win over the Hawkeyes in that meet when they swept the top two spots in the final 400 free relay. Just .39 of a second separated first from third, with Northwestern’s `B’ relay touching four one-hundredths of a second ahead of Iowa’s `A’ team for the meet victory.
Iowa’s women narrowly defeated Northwestern, 155-145, in their dual meet last year before the Wildcats got revenge just one week later with a 186-184 head-to-head victory over the Hawkeyes at Notre Dame’s Shamrock Invite.
Northwestern has the reigning Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week after Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) claimed the crown by swimming an NCAA `B’ cut of 22.87 in the 50 free to lead off a pool record 200 free relay for NU against Milwaukee Friday at the Norris Aquatics Center.
On the men’s side, sophomore diver Andrew Cramer (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) posted some of his best scores of the season on the 1- and 3-meter boards against Milwaukee last Friday while senior Mark Ferguson (Perth, Australia/John XXIII) has continued his resurgent winter following a slow fall portion of the schedule.
