Matteo Cattabriga, 14, broke the Italian national age group record in the 400 IM on Sunday. The previous record was set in 2009 by Stefano Rossa on July 24th, 2005 in Rome, Italy at 4:39.78. On Sunday, June 8, Cattabriga broke Rossa’s nine year old record with his time of 4:39.19.
Although this time, compared the Michael Phelps’ American National Age Group Record from 2000 at 4:24.77 may not make it seem like it is a big of a deal, it still leaves him within the top 10 in the world this year for his age. Cattabriga’s time is also faster than Michael Andrew’s best 400 IM in long course meters as a 14 year old. Michael Andrew re-wrote a majority of the 13-14 national age group records, taking down dozens of national age group records throughout his young career.
When I saw the title, I thought that he was breaking the the record for 9 year olds
Impressive time anyway
