Men:

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas All-America senior Mark Anderson navigated through a tight contest in the men’s platform final to win the event Saturday afternoon in the final session of the Texas Diving Invitational.

The contest saw the top-four divers separated by only four points through four of six rounds before Anderson seized the win in the final round.  Arizona State’s David Hoffer led Anderson by 1.9 points heading into the final dive, and both divers performed the same dive in the final round to decide the contest.

Anderson hit the final dive, a back two-and-a-half somersault with one-and-a-half twists, for 81.6 points while Hoffer totaled 75.2 points and surrendered the win to Anderson.

A three-time All-American on platform, Anderson took the win, his second of the meet, with 430.75 points while Hoffer settled for second at 426.25.  Anderson also won the one-meter event in the opening session of competition on Thursday.

A pair of Texas freshmen joined Anderson in the final and posted strong performances.  Reed Merritt placed fourth with 392.25 points while Jacob Cornish took fifth place with 373.80 points.

Women:

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore Sofia Rauzi completed her weekend of competition with a fifth-place finish on platform Saturday morning on the final day of the Texas Diving Invitational.

The Round Rock native and lone Longhorn in the 21-woman competition took fifth place in the platform final with 231.75 points.  Rauzi tallied a meet-bet 50.4 points on her third dive, an armstand forward, two-and-a-half somersault in the pike position.

Arizona State’s Mara Aiacoboae won the event with 327.80 points.

Texas finishes the meet with victories in two of the three events. Seventeen-year-old freshman Alison Gibson won the three-meter event on Thursday while UT sophomore Meghan O’Brien was victorious in Friday’ one-meter final.
