Marist Women Add 4 Freshmen, 2 Transfers for 2019-20

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist women’s swimming and diving announced the addition of four freshman and two transfer students to the 2019-20 incoming class. All six recruits in the class are swimmers, and all happen to be from the northeast (Connecticut, New York, or Massachusetts).

Danielle Cianciotto (NY): Breaststroke/IM – Staten Island Aquatics – Tottenville High School
Cianciotto placed first in the 200 IM and third in the 100 Breaststroke at the 2018 NYC PSAL Championships. In addition, she qualified for the New York High School State Championships in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke. She was the captain of the Tottenville High School Swim Team her junior and senior years, as well as the MVP of the team her final three years. Cianciotto was a four-year Honor Roll student and member of National Honor Society.

Deirdre Grob (CT): Freestyle – Westport Y Swim Team – Joel Barlow High School
Participated in the CIAC Girls M Championship in 2018, and posted a 25.60 time in the 50 Y Free. She also competed in the SWC Championship in 2018, qs well as the Connecticut Girls M Championships in 2017.

Molly Hewett (NY) – Backstroke/IM – Star Swimming – Lancaster High School
Hewett won the 200 IM at Eric County Interscholastic, Class A’s, and Section VI Championships and is a five-time NYSPHSAA State Championships qualifier. She was named captain of the varsity team her senior year, and was a six-year varsity letter winner. She holds three separate records at Lancaster High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Megan Lasto (CT): Breaststroke/IM – Hamden Hall Aquatics – Eastern Connecticut State
A transfer junior from Eastern Connecticut State University, Megan was the Little East Conference Swimmer-of-the-Year and six-time Little East Conference Swimmer-of-the-Week her sophomore year. She set or tied five individual program records (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM). Her freshman year, Megan was named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Year and was a seven-time Swimmer or Rookie-of-the-Week winner. Lasto was part of the Little East All-Academic Team and made Dean’s List.

Maggie Lasto (CT): Freestyle/IM – Hamden Hall Aquatics – Eastern Connecticut State
Like her sister Megan, Maggie is a transfer junior from Eastern Connecticut State University. Maggie holds one of the Top-10 times in nine of her events and was in the top two on the 2018-19 team in all 14 of her events. She was named All-Little East Conference in three events as a sophomore and four events as a freshman. She was a member of NEISDA All-Academic Team and had the highest GPA of any sophomore athlete at her school.

Leigh-Anne Zanella (MA): Freestyle/IM – Bluefish Swim Club – Medway High School
Zanella was a USA swimming sectionals qualifier and New England Seniors Finalist. She was a member of the Bluefish Swimming National National Team, and also participated in the USA swimming sectionals qualifiers. Zanella was a member of National Honor Society as well as the National Society of High School Scholars.
