Make Training Fun with the Mermaid Fin

Courtesy of FINIS, a SwimSwam Partner.

It is never too early to get your children in the water. Swimming is unlike any other feeling on earth and there is no replacement for hours spent in the pool. To begin strengthening critical muscle groups earlier and build water confidence, the FINIS Mermaid Fin is a perfect transition towards competitive swimming or swimming for fitness.

The Mermaid Fin is a fun way to train the body to spend more time in the water. The ability to create a powerful driving motion below the surface will encourage the young swimmers to dive underwater, building their lung capacity at a rate that is both comfortable and safe.

There is often only one opportunity to introduce a child to the sport of swimming. The FINIS Mermaid Fin is a legitimate early training tool that introduces our great sport in a fun and imaginative way, making it a great addition to any backyard pool or swim center.

Have your young swimmers complete the following set at the pool!

3 ROUNDS

8 x  Bobs off the bottom (one inhale at the top, exhale down to the bottom, push up w/ legs)

2 Lengths x Underwater kicking with Mermaid Fin, coming to the surface as needed

*Remind your swimmer to slowly exhale (blow bubbles) while their face is in the water, helping them remain comfortable and to gain a full breath on their next trip to the surface.
