WOMEN’S 50 METER FREESTYLE – FINAL

  • U.S. Olympic Trials: 26.19

Experience led the way in the women’s 50 free final. Madison Kennedy of SwimMAC came to the wall in 24.45 to clock the fourth-fastest time in the world so far this season. Dana Vollmer of California Aquatics lowered the personal-best 25.00 she had gone in prelims by .31 to place second with 24.69. Abbey Weitzeil was third in 24.72, 1/10 faster than she had been in the morning. Simone Manuel was also under 25, finishing fourth with 24.78.

Guys, the ultimate goal is to swim the best time of your season at olympic games, not at olympic trials.

Most Americans don’t have the luxury of being able to leave something in reserve for the games. As of right now, Phelps, Ledecky, and Murphy are the only three who can feel confident that 95% is good enough to make the team. For Murphy that might not even hold true for the 100 back, just the 2. With that being said most of the swimmers who do make the team usually find a way to drop a little more for the big one. I know many people bemoan the short break we have between trials and Olympics, but I can’t think of too many Americans who swam lights out at trials then crapped the bed at the Olympics. 24.3 will make US team I agree. 52.9/53.0 will be top 2 with 53.6 for 6th at trials in 100

Pretty good to be 6th behind the best of the best in the 50 free . 10th for Vollmer is rather satisfying too

It’s going to take a 24.3 to make the Olympic team. Cool. Also, 53.1 to make the team in the 100.
