Maclin Davis Crushes National HS Record in 100 Fly

Future USC Trojan Maclin Davis isn’t a recruit who will blow you away with his versatility. What he does do, however, he does better than any other high school swimmer in history. The Montgomery Bell Academy senior broke the 100 fly National High School Record with a 46.64 at the Tennessee High School State Championship during prelims today.

That breaks the National Independent High School mark held by Nate Dusing out of Kentucky at 47.10 from all the way back in 1999. It also clears Michigan swimmer Sean Fletcher’s 47.08 from 2009.

Davis not only crushes the record by 4-tenths of a second, he also became the first high school swimmer ever to go sub-47 in the 100 fly.

Davis also split a 21.03 on the 200 medley relay. He will race the 100 free and 400 free relay on Saturday.

And that’s just prelims.

pretty good 100 free today as well, 44 anything out of high school pretty fast and definitely in line with shields and nolan type of skill– i think US trials in 2012 may have some significant young talent represented in the top 16 which is much needed considering that some of that preeminent talent is getting on in years

To coacherik, yes Tom Shields is a strong backstroker in yards. But in long course I haven’t seen him really good so I can’t say he’s incredible. In butterfly he has already made good times in long course, sub 53. Nothing well compared to his performances in yards but always honest. Until now Tom Shields is only a short course swimmer thanks to his monster underwaters, he hasn’t international results. At the opposite I predict Maclin Davis will have a big international career.

Maclin Davis is a pure specialist of the 100 fly. He’s great in long course compared for example to another pure specialist Tom Shields. He’s the junior world champion. It will be a little soon for the second spot this year behind Michael Phelps at the olympic trials but he’s clearly one of the future american forces in this event with David Nolan. Very interesting to follow his final.

“he also became the first high school swimmer ever to go sub-47 in the 100 fly”.. You may want to specify in a high school championship meet.. David Nolan broke it after piaa states last year
