FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Elizabeth Walsh and Sung Lee won three races each for the Loyola University Maryland women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams Saturday as the Greyhounds scored a pair of victories over host Fairfield University.

The men were 193-81 victors, while the women held off the Stags for a 154-144 victory against their former Metro Atlantic Athletic, Conference foes.

Emma Schouten won two events for the Loyola women, including taking top honors by more than six seconds in the 400-meter individual medley race that secured the team victory.

At the meet, the Greyhounds rewrote the school records for short-course meters, setting 19 records total.

Walsh set women’s standards in her three individual victories – 1:04.68 in the 100 backstroke, 2:21.48 in the 200 backstroke and 2:20.91 in the 200 butterfly – and Schouten scored a pair of records in her individual wins – 2:37.55 in the 200 breaststroke and 5:04.11 in the 400 individual medley.

Megan Dickey also had two records for the women, posting new marks in the 50 freestyle (27.08) and 100 freestyle (59.34). Dickey and Schouten teamed with Devin Cronin and Emily Koegl to set an 800 freestyle relay record of 8:49.35, while Walsh, Cronin, Koegl and Dickey led off the meet with a school record of 2:00.72 in the 200 medley relay.

On the men’s side, Lee and John Callaghan each snagged a pair of individual records. Lee swam 53.02 to set a mark in the 100 freestyle, and his lead-off leg of 1:55 in the 800 freestyle relay set a 200 freestyle record. Callaghan had record-setting wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.71) and 200 breaststroke (2:27.43).

Jimmy Hayburn set a 50 freestyle record (23.56), and Nick Pacitti notched one in the 1,500 freestyle (16:19.50). Reid Hussey had a record fall in the 400 individual medley (4:34.91), and he came back to team with Lee, Colin Anderson and Mark Shoemaker to set a record of 7:56.39 in the 800 freestyle.

Cronin and Koegl each had record-setting swims, too. Cronin went 1:13.45 in the 100 breaststroke and Koegl touched the wall in 1:03.50 in the 100 butterfly.

In the opening relay of the women’s meet, Fairfield eeked out a narrow win by four-hundredths of a second, besting the Greyhounds’ top relay’s time of 2:00.92. Schouten then led Loyola’s contingent in the 1,500 freestyle with a third-place time of 17:38.50, while Elizabeth Romano was fifth in 18:12.71.

Four Greyhounds took third through sixth in the 200 freestyle – Aly Pacitti (2:21.38, third), Brooke Sharkey (2:14.40, fourth), Lauren Joyce (2:15.16, fifth) and Jennifer DeGroat (2:17.84, sixth) – and Loyola then took the lead in the team race with a one through four finish in the 100 backstroke. Walsh led the way with her record-setting swim, and Taylor Ament captured second in 1:05.95. Anne Hayburn was third in 1:07.95, and Faith Tyranski finished fourth in 1:08.97.

Cronin took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke, and Walsh led three Loyola swimmers who had top-five finishes in the 200 butterfly. Molly Davis was third in 2:23.98, while Alexa Steward took fifth in 2:26.80.

Dickey finished second in the 50 freestyle, and Sophia Jahan netted a fourth-place finish with a time of 27.28.

Three Greyhounds competed in 1-meter diving on the women’s side with Jessica Stolfi leading the way with 178.58 points to take second. Anna Donato was third in 168.08, and Elizabeth Berta finished fourth with 153.23. The trio also finished second through fourth in the 3-meter event with Donato coming in second (157.28), Berta third (155.63) and Stolfi fourth (154.73).

After the break, Dickey came out with a winning race in the 100 freestyle, swimming 59.34, while Jahan was fourth (1:00.71), and Koegl finished fifth (1:00.77).

Walsh then led a one through four finish for Loyola in the 200 backstroke as Ament (2:23.37, second), Anne Hayburn (2:23.85, third) and Joyce (2:29.82, fourth) were close behind.

Schouten was a winner in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.55, while Cronin swam 2:45.50 to finish fourth. Jahan then was the top Greyhounds swimmer in the 400 freestyle, finishing second in 4:34.56, while Romano took fourth in 4:40.33.

Koegl scored a victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.51, followed by Anne Hayburn in third (1:05.47) and Grace Huckenpoehler in fourth (1:07.10). Schouten’s win in the 400 individual medley sealed the victory with a time of 5:04.11, while Emily O’Halloran took fifth in 5:17.88.

On the men’s side, the Greyhounds opened with a one-two-three finish in the 200 medley relay with the top team cruising to a time of 1:47.52.

Nick Pacitti won the 1,500 freestyle in 16:19.15, while Alejandro Basalo was fourth (17:32.30), and Ben Amoreno took fifth (17:43.56). Hussey and Shoemaker finished one-two in the 200 freestyle with respective times of 1:56.58 and 2:00.31; Josh Walker and Brendon Kolar finished fourth and fifth in 2:04.05 and 2:06.67.

Mark Boran led three Loyola swimmers in the top three of the 100 backstroke, swimming 59.65 to edge teammate Conor Rutigliano‘s 59.74. Jonathan Brooks was third in 1:00.15.

Callaghan scored the first of his two individual victories, besting the field in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.71, while David Sears went 1:07.52 to finish second, and John Venit was third in 1:08.11.

Lee took first in the 200 butterfly in 2:07.67, while Zach Metzler was second in 2:10.61, and Richard Kogut finished third (2:15.76). Jimmy Hayburn scored a win by more than a second in the 50 freestyle, swimming 23.56, while Patrick Clisham took second in 24.58. Anderson was third in 24.73, and Alexander Chan finished fourth in 25.29. Lee came back to win the 100 freestyle in 53.02, edging Anderson’s 53.68, and Hayburn’s 54.00.

In diving Jeremy Unanue scored 177.75 to finish second in the 1-meter event and 187.05 for the same place in the 3-meter discipline.

Boran won the 200 backstroke in 2:09.06, as Brooks (2:12.32) and Walker (2:14.18) came in second and third. Callaghan and Sears again went one-two in the 200 breaststroke, swimming 2:27.43 and 2:30.11, respectively.

Loyola had the top-five times in the 400 freestyle, led by Hussey’s 4:07.26 and Nick Pacitti’s 4:13.33. Lee went 56.46 in the 100 butterfly for a win, followed by Metzler (58.06), Clisham (1:00.48) and Kogut (1:00.69).

Hussey then had the top time in the 400 individual medley (4:34.91), followed by Walker at 4:49.92.

Loyola will take a two-week break before it returns to the pool November 30-December 1, to host Marist College, Iona College, Mount St. Mary’s University and Howard University in the H2ounds Invitational.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving both fell to Loyola Maryland today at the RecPlex pool.  The men dropped the meet by a score of 81-193 while the women fought for every point but were edged by a score of 144-154.

On the women’s side, Kelly Cordes, Victoria Krivitsky, Morgan Hansen, and Maria Nitti finished in first-place in the 200 Meter Medley Relay with a final time of 2:00.88 breaking the previous program record of 2:01.73 which the same group set last season.  Kathleen Duong, Sara Ostensen, Nitti, and Cordes also set a new program record in their 800 Meter Freestyle Relay first-place finish with a final time of 8:44.67 surpassing the previous record of 8:50.16 set last year by Rachel Landry, Cordes, Nitti and Ostensen.  Sara Ostensen also set a new program record in the 800 Meter Freestyle with her split in the relay with a final time of 9:09.23.

Ostensen would also finish in first place in the 1500 Meter Freestyle with a record-breaking time of 17:26.27 which surpassed the previous record of 17:44.82 set by Brittany Hunter in 2004.  Ostensen also finished in second place in the 400 Meter IM and the 200 Meter Butterfly.

Maria Nitti set a new program record in her first-place finish in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 26.95 surpassing the previous record of 26.96 set by Michelle Yoshida in 2012.  Nitti would also finish second in the 100 Meter Freestyle (59.55).

Colleen Young finished with a record-breaking time of 1:14.84 in the 100 Meter Breaststroke beating out her teammate Victoria Krivitsky‘s time of 1:15.06 that she set last season. Young also finished in second place in the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:39.79).

Kelly Cordes finished in first place in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:09.11) and third in the 400 Meter Freestyle.  Shannon Feeley picked up a first-place finish in the 400 Meter Freestyle (4:33.03) and finished second in the 1500 Meter Freestyle (17:34.60).  She also finished third in the 400 Meter IM.  Morgan Hansen finished in second in the 100 Meter Butterfly (1:05.14) while Kathleen Duong placed second in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:10.23).  Victoria Krivitsky took home a third-place finish in the 100 Meter Breaststroke while Emily Vlass finished third in the 200 Meter Breaststroke.  Samantha D’Alessandro finished third in the 100 Meter Freestyle and the 50 Meter Freestyle as well.

Caitlin Campbell finished in first place in both the 1 Meter Diving and the 3 Meter Diving with final scores of 179.70 and 190.13 respectively.

On the men’s side, Patrick Boyle broke the program record with his second-place finish in the 1500 Meter Freestyle with a final time of 16:33.27 surpassing the previous record of 17:02.47 set last season by Phillip Zyskowski.  Boyle also finished first in the 400 Meter IM clocking in at 4:50.24.  Timothy Cusack-McPartlin placed second in the 400 Meter IM as well and finished third in the 1500 Meter Freestyle.  Peter Gori came in third in the 200 Meter Freestyle while Peter Sloan placed third in the 200 Meter Breaststroke.  Thomas Willemse, Jack Benavides, Gori, and Boyle finished in first place in the 800 Meter Freestyle Relay with a final time of 8:19.61.

Lukas Stanton picked up two first place finishes in the 1 Meter Diving (228.45) and the 3 Meter Diving (198.30).

“Our student athletes made great adjustment from yesterday’s meet to today” said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. “Many team members, men and women had season best times and we’re positioning ourselves well for our opponent next week and our mid-year meet at the end of the month.”

The Stags will return to action on Saturday, November 17 at 1 P.M. as they host a MAAC rival, the Marist Red Foxes at the RecPlex Pool.
