Louisville’s Carroll, Cottrell Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville swimmers Trevor Carroll and Andrea Cottrell and diver Sean Piner, along with Georgia Tech diver Shannon Lumbra, were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

Carroll earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors for the third time this season after leading the Cardinals to a 200-100 win over rival Kentucky. The junior posted three individual wins and a relay win, scoring 27 points for Louisville. Carroll finished with NCAA B-cut times in the 50 free and 200 free, placed first in the 500 free, and recorded the fastest split of the race in the 400 free relay.

Cottrell was named Female Swimmer of the Week for the Second time this season for her performance in Louisville’s 190-110 win over Kentucky. The junior scored 18 points for the Cards, placing first in two individual events and two relay events. Cottrell posted NCAA B-cut times in the 100 and 200 breast, while her wins in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay gave her four first-place finishes on the day.

Piner earned Male Diver of the Week honors for his performance against the Wildcats. The senior placed first in the 1-meter event with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 367.58. He then placed this in the 3-meter event, finishing with a score of 310.50.

Lumbra was named Female Diver of the Week for the second time this season after posting two first-place finishes in Georgia Tech’s dual meet against No. 22 Alabama. The senior finished with NCAA zone qualifying scores in both events, scoring 290.90 on the 1-meter board and 293.60 on the 3-meter board.
