Summer Cardwell from Crystal Beach, Florida has given the University of Louisville its first verbal commitment to the women’s swimming and diving class of 2027.
A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Cardwell is an Olympic Trials Wave I qualifier in the 200/400 freestyles. She finished 4th (2:01.74) and 11th (4:166.54) in the respective events at Trials this past summer. Her best times in those events, as well as in the 100 free, 200 fly and 200 IM, came at 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando in April. She won the 200 free (2:00.88) and the 400 free (4:13.69), was runner-up in the 100 free (56.55) and the 200 fly (2:17.62), and finished 4th in the 200 IM (2:19.53) and 9th in the 100 fly (1:01.90).
This summer, she swam at Huntsville Futures and Summer Champs East and added new LCM times in the 50 free (26.18), 800 free (8:55.09), 200 breast (2:44.27), and 400 IM (4:58.27).
A junior at Countryside High School, she won the 200 free (1:48.40) and was runner-up in the 100 fly (54.24) at the 2020 FHSAA Class 3A State Championships last season. As a 9th-grader she won both the 100 free (51.37) and 200 free (1:49.35).

The Cardinals’ mid-distance freestyle group consists mainly of juniors and seniors this season so Cardwell will make an impact from the outset. She’ll find a strong training group with Paige Hetrick, Liberty Williams, and Paige McCormick and she will join a butterfly group led by Gabi Albiero and Tristen Ulett.
Cardwell does her club swimming with Tampa Bay Aquatic Club.
