Switzerland’s Lisa Mamie torched her National Record in the women’s 200 breaststroke at the 2021 European Championships, touching first in a loaded semi-final heat in a time of 2:23.15.
Mamie’s swim eclipsed her previous Swiss record and personal best time of 2:24.27 set at the 2020 Sette Colli Trophy. In the prelims, she swam a time of 2:24.47 to narrowly miss that mark.
Racing against defending champion Yuliya Efimova, current world #3 Evgeniia Chikunova and 100 breast winner Sophie Hansson, Mamie took over the race lead on the second 50 and held off the Russian duo down the stretch, winning the semi and qualifying third overall for Friday’s final.
Split Comparison
The key difference-maker for Mamie in the semi-final swim came on the opening 100, and in particular, the second 50.

The 22-year-old slots herself into the world’s top 10 rankings for the season with this performance (10th).
Mamie now has the chance to become Switzerland’s first-ever medalist in the women’s 200 breast at the LC European Championships. At the 2018 edition in Glasgow, she placed 16th overall, and at the 2019 World Championships, placed ninth.
Earlier in the competition here in Budapest, Mamie finished 12th in the 100 breast in 1:06.77, less than two tenths outside of her National Record set in 2020 (1:06.60).
